The Scoop: We did America’s Army yesterday, so what the heck, let’s just make it an FPS weekend here at Today’s Free Game. Only today we have something a little older, a little clunkier, and much more British for you.
Hidden & Dangerous was originally released in 1999, and is considered one of the fathers of the realistic, tactical shooter genre that continues to be popular to this day. The game received positive (but not glowing) marks upon its release. The good news is that the biggest complaint most reviewers had against the game was simply the inclusion of too many bugs, and this deluxe edition squashes most of them. It also includes the game’s official expansion The Devil’s Bridge for good measure.
Be warned: Hidden & Dangerous IS a lot of fun, but it’s quite slow-paced by today’s standards. You’ll need to inch your way forward inch by inch, sloooowly working your way into German territory, going as long as possible without being detected. So, you sacrifice run & gun gameplay, but you gain a great sense of truly feeling like a British soldier. When you complete a tough mission in Hidden & Dangerous, you truly feel like you’ve gone through some shit.
